Introducing the Berguv/Eagle Owl figurine by Lisa Larson from Jie Gantofta/Atelje.
Jie is a historical brand established in 1942 in Gantofta, a town in southern Sweden. It closed down in 1992. It is famous for its ceramic plaques with floral motifs and girl figurines.
Although not widely known, Lisa Larson worked as a freelancer for Jie from 1990 until its bankruptcy in 1992.
During her time there, she produced Tomte figurines and animal figurines like this one. After Jie went bankrupt, she established her own ceramic studio in Gothenburg.
This eagle owl, an existing species in Swedish forests, was created for the World Wildlife Fund. Swedish forests are home to many owls and long-eared owls. Nevertheless, they are a protected species whose sightings have become increasingly rare. Incidentally, the difference between an owl and a long-eared owl is that the latter has prominent ear tufts, while the former has a round head with no prominent ear tufts.
This is a rare and uncommon piece.
