The Black\/White version debuted in 1972. While the design of the original colored pieces is by Birger Kaipiainen, there's actually a backstory to the creation of the black version. The Paratiisi decor presented cost issues, and with a proposal from form designer Richard Lindh and approval from Kaipiainen, production continued until 1974.
